THE BEGINNING - THE FORMING OF TWO SIDES
Back in the very beginning, as far back as the beta days, a number of individuals had banded together to discuss how Minmatar and Amarr should be roleplayed based upon the lore available at the time.
In 2003, many of these individuals would go on to form pro-Minmatar corporations. These being SMaK Enterprises, FU2, Matari Backbone and Amarr Will Eat Itself. These were later joined by Oracle and The People's Front of Minmatar.
Regularly we would see pro-Amarr corporations such as Blacksheep Squadron, PIE Inc., 1st Praetorian Guard and Imperial Dreams make raids into Minmatar space, with our own corporations being based around Teonusude, Gulfonodi and Gelfiven.
Battles would rage across the pipe to Amarr, when at the time Yulai was the main trade-hub and many battles would occur in that very system. The eve forums were pivotal in building up supporters on both sides through RP-driven content and in time we grew.
So here we have both sides fighting against each other in what is seen in many ways by those still with us today as the Amarr v Minmatar Faction Warfare of its era. Both sides essentially had coalitions fighting each other in the name of their own factions and beliefs.
We would make raids into Amarr space to attack NPC haulers which dropped slaves which we would then take back into Pator into a rescue centre - something which existed in our minds at the time as part of our Minmatar v Amarr storylines.
The pro-Amarr corporations grew in strength and the battles intensified.
The Khumaak Debate
In February YC106 (2004), things changed dramatically.
The Sebiestor tribe - the ruling tribe in the Republic - called for a ban of the Khumaak for public appearances as apparel or being visible in military or fleet circles, citing that the "Hand of Maak" was an "unnecessary reminder of past Bloodshed".
The pro-Minmatar corporations rose up in anger at this decision - why would the Republic choose to abandon this symbol of the Matari people's struggle and heritage?
This in turn caused a reaction from the often silent Maleatu Shakor on the issue:
"The past week has served to do nothing but highlight the monumental inefficiency of this formalized bickering. Parliament needs to have supreme executive authority when irreconcilable internal differences arise within the tribes. As things stand now, there’s no telling what will come of the situation."
During this, Wren of Oracle was busy preparing for a peaceful protest in Eram for the 29th of February outside the Sebiestor tribal HQ where there would be an outcry and demand for PM Midular to speak out about her reasoning for the attempted ban.
Plots gathered outside calling for Midular to respond to our presence and cans were jettisoned to spell out what we wanted and what the Minmatar stood for - freedom from oppression and Freedom to express ourselves as free Minmatar.
At the climax of this protest, pro-Minmatar members retrieved a single Khumaak from these cans and casted a vote of 'no confidence' in PM Midular and the current Republic administration.
The silence from Midulars office was short-lived and the following day a response was issued to the protestors by Atbi Enonotur, Chief Coordinator of Public Relations for the Sebiestor:
"The Sebiestor tribe regrets our fellow Minmatars’ lack of restraint in this matter, and wishes to let it be known that it has not, and will not, pander to the wishes of extremists who do not have the Republic’s best political interests at hand. Today is a time of diplomacy, and relics of a bloody past do nothing to help our relations with the other empires, relations which we have built through the hard work of communication and mutual understanding."
This was seen as the true beginning of the rift between loyalist and separatist factions of the Matari capsuleer community. Oracle and Gradient would have disagreements over these issues and tensions would grow. We were now seen as extremists to loyal members of the Republic or "terrorists" in the eyes of the Amarr.
We were outraged at the suggestion that we did not have our people's best interests at heart - a peaceful protest to keep Matari traditions - we saw no reason to simply abandon the symbol of the Minmatar struggle to be free. This was seen as a government move to pander to bureaucracy.
With immediate effect, The People's Republic Of Minmatar was formed in the Tartatven constellation of Molden Heath, in low-security space where our own rp-driven self-stylized "government" would be our one voice against the current Minmatar government.
This banding of corporations would be lead by Adrielle Firewalker (AWEI), Ivy Redflame (MBB), Maggot (FU2) and DeT Resprox (SMaK). Oracle, The People's Front of Minmatar, The Paratwa Ra and Northern Intelligence would remain our closest allies, separate from this newly formed coalition but at war with our enemies as one to be known as "The Friends Of Matar".
Ten days later, the Brutor tribe issued its own response requesting that “the Khumaak to be kept on the official list of sanctioned Minmatar state, military and fleet apparel”.
The Sebiestor tribe went silent while they reviewed the Brutor proposal and four days later on 15th March YC106(2004) the motion was passed.
A high official in the Sebiestor tribe resigned - Bolwin Amrisar - stating of PM Midular that “she had, prior to the motion, dealt with high-level officials within the Amarr government to secure the release and return of a large number of Minmatar slaves from still-active colonies in return for the Khumaak’s banning at occasions where Amarr emissaries would be present.” The accusations however, were quickly dismissed by the council, stating that such a deal could not have occurred without people knowing of it.
This in turn spurred the now-famous quote from the PM herself:
"I do what is best for my people, in any way I can. That is all anyone should need concern themselves with."
Time would go on as The People's Republic of Minmatar and The Friends of Matar would fight against the pirates of Molden Heath - one of our main stances being to wipe out piracy in Minmatar space to make it a safe haven for all while at the same time our war with the Amarrian corps continued.
In time CONCORD finally bowed to building political pressures and began to formally recognise Capsuleer Alliances as political entities. It was not long until New Eden's first ever registered Capsuleer Alliance was formally recognised by the CONCORD Assembly. On 25th November 106EST (2004), the Ushra'Khan was born which was formed of members of both The People's Republic of Minmatar and "The Friends Of Matar".
Just days after this, Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) would be formed, consisting of our enemies PIE Inc. and Imperial Dreams amongst other names.
Living in Molden Heath, then a notorious border region of the Minmatar Republic, the Ushra'Khan began to develop both its military capabilities and political position in New Eden. At this time the Ushra'Khan was both a shield and sword for the Minmatar people.
Much of Molden Heath was an undeveloped pirate haven. A significant number of local Capsuleers saw fit to make their trade by pirating these space lanes and picking off the isolated non-combatants of the area. The Ushra'Khan was heavily involved in setting up a local defence group and working to secure the area from both pirates and slavers crossing the border through the now closed Throne Worlds-Yulai-Molden Heath trade route.
Meanwhile, opportunities were sought out to take the fight back to the Amarr and to bring home lost kin when and where ever possible. The alliance expanded and became well known across New Eden for its determined focus upon an issue, while most strongly identified with amongst Matari, that all could identify with. Peoples of all nations were drawn to the iconic bloody fist and pledged their support to its cause. Molden Heath became safer and Amarr came to know the sight of freedom fighters raiding its territories.
A MAJOR SHIFT
On 5th July 107 (2005), Emperor Doriam II was assassinated. This led to a shut down and diversion of several key jump routes, cutting off the Yulai corridor linking Molden Heath to Amarr. In response the Ushra'Khan relocated to the pirate-nest system of Amamake in order to be closer to enemy territory. This also marked the first big step taken on the path towards leaving Republic space. Tensions between the 'increasingly radical' Ushra'Khan and the conservative pro-Midular camp were continuing to build in Eve storylines.
The Ushra'Khan's presence soon had a strong stabilising effect on the surrounding systems making Amamake a relatively safe transit point. The local pirates were largely suppressed and displaced, a favourable side effect for all Minmatar of the alliance's new forward base.
While the situation on the home front had been developing, and the freedom fighter-Republic tensions growing, the Amarrian loyalist alliance the CVA had begun their venture to reclaim the Providence region for the Empire. Operation Deliverance.
Under the auspices of 'Operation Deliverance', CVA and its allies stepped up anti-pirate activities in the southern regions of the Amarr Empire bordering the Providence region and neighbouring 0.0 systems in Providence. Historically these areas (including Kheram, Gemodi, Mamet, Misaba and R3-K7K) had been dominated by piratical corporations such as The Priory, Hooligans of War, Freeks, and The Short Bus Squad. From late 106 EST to late 107 EST, CVA succeeded in bringing 'relative' peace to the Deliverance corridor and forcing resident pirates out of the area although its authority was challenged by sporadic piratical invasions, primarily raids by The Priory and a full scale invasion of Kheram by The Short Bus Squad.
It was decided that it was time for the Ushra'Khan to move beyond the Republic and oppose this attempt to expand Imperial borders directly. Moving into northern Providence the alliance became fully based in null-sec space for the first time in its history. Operating from starbases and Thukker Tribe stations in low-sec Mandate space, the Ushra'Khan largely parted company with Midular's Republic.
A new dimension had taken place in the Amarr versus Minmatar conflict. For the first time, actual territory was now being contested over.
At the time, Providence had no stations whatsoever. CVA built their station first having built up an industrial arm faster than the Ushra'Khan. Soon after, in the summer of YC108 (2006) Ushra'Khan built UNITY station in 9UY4-H. This was all before Jump Bridges or Jump Freighters were a thing. Moving minerals was a hard slog. Tech 2 Industrials did not even exist back then. POS corp hangars were used to stockpile minerals and materials over a period of several weeks.
Ugleb, one of the high council members of the Ushra'Khan at the time made the announcement:
“It is with great pride that I formally announce the commissioning of UNITY Station, the new home of the Ushra'Khan.
Three days ago primary assembly of the station took place after months of preparation
and planning. The operation went smoothly and completed well ahead of schedule thanks to the diligence of many pilots. Over the past three days engineers have been working around the clock to complete interior works and prepare the station for full operation.
This station marks a turning point in the history and future progress of our cause. Until now we have always been a totally nomadic band and we have relocated to react to changing circumstance and respond to the flow of galactic events. This is no longer enough.
The construction of UNITY Station marks the day that we begin to effect lasting changes. Our presence in Providence has been noted for some time, we came to create forward bases independent of the Republic from which to wage war on the Amarr Empire and its servants. UNITY Station shall become our fortress, our symbol.
We have established a stronghold on the fringe of Amarrian space that sits astride three major transit routes between the Empire and deep space. These routes are now under our watchful eye and closed to the enemy. From here we may continue to strike into the southern reaches of the Ammatar Mandate and beyond.
But there is of course more to this station than a mere 'shipping customs' post watching the border for slave transports. In recent months the Ushra'Khan established a starbase that was to serve as an educational facility for freed slaves as well as a way station on their journey to safe space. This non-military facility was destroyed by a major Amarrian loyalist task force in retaliation for the death of Slave Holder Lord Torash.
We promised the families of those who died that we would continue this good work and rebuild. And so we have. UNITY station shall provide temporary sanctuary for the newly liberated and shall become a place of learning where these people may learn of their native culture. This shall be their first step on the road to their new, free lives.
Against the spread of the CVA's 'Deliverance' campaign, against the disillusionment of Matari across the galaxy, we light a beacon. We stand firm in our dream and conviction and look the future. The freedom fighters of the galaxy today have a place all can consider home, a place from which we may move forward.”
The 'Pirate Invasion' of 9UY4-H
Being still a relatively small alliance, perhaps one of the smallest to hold a station at this time, Unity Station was always likely to be a tempting target for an opportunistic foe. Given the crack down on piracy that the Ushra'Khan had been pursuing within its space it should not be all that surprising that in time there came a backlash.
The pirate-mercenary corporation, The Establishment, assembled a coalition of other pirate units to mount a full scale assault on Ushra'Khan sovereignty. The size and resources of this broad coalition was surprising, as was the tenacity of many of its members. There have been few, if any, capsuleer pirate collaborations quite like it.
Soon after the fight began, the neighbouring Interstellar Starbase Syndicate joined the defence and together the defenders were able to fight the attackers to a stalemate. The forces fielded on both sides were substantial and a high number of capital ships saw action with the pirate forces fielding notable numbers of Carriers led by Hera, the Establishment's Nyx class mothership.
The fighting went on for weeks with neither side able to break the other. While the pirate forces were diverse and in many cases had not characteristically operated in such a sustained style of combat before, while one corporation might leave the fight others would join it. The hard fighting core remained. As did the defenders.
In the end the siege was broken by the enlistment of the Mercenary Coalition. These highly regarded mercenaries brought sufficient capital strength to the field to finally break the balance and strike hard at the besieging control towers. It took one decisive battle to finally decide the course of the war and end the attempted invasion.
Karishal’s Defiance
There is a huge plot story to this involving CCP which i will go into more detail another time as it needs several days to write..
On 1st July 108, a war hero of the Minmatar people joined the cause of Freedom. Captain Karishal Muritor of the Republic Fleet went rogue, taking with him a Hel class Mothership, the Alfhild, and its supporting carrier group. Together with his loyal comrades he formed the guerilla fighter group known as 'The Defiants'.
To the Ushra'Khan, these men and women were kindred spirits. To support the Defiants operations was both an honour and a strategic priority for the alliance and on several occasions their pilots flew side by side. It was during this period that the Ushra'Khan supported the assault upon, and destruction of, the Imperial Navy's Sosala Battle station.
The triumph and successes of recent months were cruelly turned to despair on 1st February 109. At the order of Prime Minister Midular's war cabinet, Karishal Muritor was lured under a flag of truce to a meeting in Auga. There he was shot down by the Republic Fleet before the disbelieving eyes of an Ushra'Khan escort.
The murder sent shock waves rippling throughout Minmatar society and drove an even greater wedge between the Ushra'Khan and the Republic. A symbolic bounty of a single ISK was placed upon Midular's head by the then-alliance executor, Maggot, to show her sum worth to the Minmatar people.
The remaining Defiants departed soon after to the Great Wildlands in search of something they hoped might change the course of the war forever. The Ushra'Khan, having saved Muritor's body, returned to Providence to lay the fallen hero to rest in exile. Having just acquired the station ISS Fabrica, the station was rechristened to “Karishal’s Defiance” an outpost in honour of our brother in QR-K85 and dedicated to the Memory of Karishal Muritor. He was laid to rest within the halls of Karishal's Defiance until such time as he could be returned home to his birthplace within the Republic.
However, CVA would declare war on Ushra’Khan new ally Imperial Order following a succession of incidents in the former's space that led IO to join forces with U'K but this appeared not enough to stem the tide.
The initial target of the CVA and its allies appeared to be more of a strike at morale rather than a tactical push, with their initial focus on capturing the outpost home to the remains of the deceased leader of The Defiants, Karishal Muritor.
Fighting was fierce between the two sides with PIE Inc, Aegis Militia and Vigilia Valeria joining CVA on their offensive. U’K started to lose ground despite the help of the Imperial Order, Electus Matari, Fimbulwinter, Chaos Incarnate and The Star Fraction in defending the system.
According to observers, U’K had been asking for help from numerous entities and received assistance from a variety of forces including EM, CI, Namtz'aar K'in, the Littlest Hobos, IO and numerous independents including Mori Felding as well as SF.
Even with this aid, the battles continued and U’K seemed incapable of stemming the flood of CVA and its allies, with some losses considered to have been avoidable and blamed on the inexperience of young fleet commanders.
Despite accusations from both sides of the conflict that U’K were not as committed to defending their space as they should be this does not tell the whole story. The Herculean efforts of EveJoker did not go unnoticed by combatants and one of the few times that he took a break from proceedings led to erroneous reports that SF were in control of the defences. He was ably assisted in the fight by Aequitas Harbinger of IO and Algey of the Littlest Hobos but their tactical nous was not enough to beat back the advancing horde.
The Siege of QR, which lasted roughly a week started with the reinforcing of Ushra'Khan towers in QR and the placement of a matching number of towers to combat claim. Ushra'Khan managed to successfully defend one tower with the help of allies, resulting in substantially losses for the time to CVA's capital fleet. However the losses failed to slow the onslaught of CVA forces who continued their efforts and successfully captured the system.
“Karishal’s Defiance” was captured and renamed to “Karishal’s Folly”, by Amarrian paramilitary forces. This would lead to a huge upswing in the conflict with Amarr forces attacking what they perceived to be terrorists, whilst at the same time looking to protect their commercial interests. Regardless, Ushra'Khan desperately needed to defend their nearby systems which were now under threat.
As a result of recent developments, "The Voices of Matar' held a protest rally against the current government of the Republic. The rally, which took place in Lustrivek V – Republic Justice Department Law School, threatened to spill over into violence.
A report on the rally is forthcoming.
The Fall of Unity Station
Events moved quickly. Several former friends were moving off the fence and siding with the CVA. The new support had refocusing of efforts had swiftly made a difference to the tactical situation. It was not long before the CVA began their assault on 'terrorist central' itself. Two months on from The Siege of QR, the second battle for Unity Station was on.
The defences of 9UY4-H were stronger than those of QR-K85. And the defenders had prepared themselves knowing that the attack would come. Shortly after the siege began events took an unexpected turn. Even with the support of new allies, the defenders were still out gunned by the coalition brought against them. It would be hard fought but the odds were still poor. It was not long before Sylph launched an attack on an Ushra'Khan mining base a few jumps away, bringing themselves firmly into the war.
The true surprise came when news of the invasion spread. And help came from unexpected quarters. The Imperialists are not without their enemies. Support came unasked for from groups such as 0utbreak, Ev0ke and The Establishment who had now sided with us. These unexpected developments turned a grim fight against the odds into a chance of victory. Such was the unpredictable nature of the conflict that at the peak of the defenders successes, a strike was successfully mounted against a CVA capital shipyard.
The fighting dragged on for months but in the end it was the superior economic strength of the CVA that decided the outcome.
CVA initially placed a handful of staging POS's in the system, establishing a foothold to base from, then in one night, they placed enough control towers in systems to gain Sovereignty for a day. During the day that Ushra'Khan lost sovereignty, CVA stormed the outpost and destroyed the enemy jump clones. After this, Ushra'Khan lost Ev0ke support and within two weeks, both sides were control tower spamming. Eventually, Ushra'Khan was unable to match CVA's tower numbers as CVA began reinforcing and destroying hostile towers. With the loss of their outposts Ushra'Khan was forced to retreat to Assah in nearby Derelik.
For some months the Ushra'Khan continued to prosecute the war from low-sec Derelik but was unable to go head to head with the Amarrian Providence bloc, which possessed vastly superior numbers. The simple truth was that Amarrian forces had become entrenched and for the time being too strong to challenge outright.
The Fall of Amarrian Providence
In December YC111 (2009) the Providence sovereignty holder alliance LFA launched an opportunistic sovereignty grab into Catch to snatch a handful of unclaimed systems bordering on -A- holdings. This was closely followed by a declaration of intent delivered by the CVA-led Providence bloc to oust the Ushra'Khan from their holdings in Catch.
This move was to be politically catastrophic for Providence. LFA had capitalised on both -A- and the Ushra'Khans attention being focused against Goonswarm in Querious. For a short term they were able to hold the captured systems until attention was returned to the situation on the home front of Catch. Fighting ensued and the systems were retaken.
This brief conflict redefined the political balance and 'cold war' stance between Catch and Providence. While the Ushra'Khan had ever considered itself at war with Providence, there had existed an uneasy truce between the CVA's Providence and -A- that meant conflict was limited to non-sovereignty challenges. A Providence holder intruding on -A-'s sphere of influence in Catch brought this state of affairs to an end.
The liberation of Providence began, a massive undertaking that took months to resolve. The two sides clashed in the historic battle for D-GTMI, the outcome of which determined the ultimate course of the war. D-GTMI was then the home system of Paxton Federation, a Holder alliance of Amarrian Providence.
Both sides brought their full forces to bear in the final battle for control of the station, a battle resulting in the near total annihilation of the Providence Capital fleet. Over two hundred Ushra'Khan warriors took to the field on that day alone. This battle proved so decisive that the war was all but won on that day, leaving months of steady advance ahead in taking control of the regions many Outpost systems. Much of CVA's support evaporated following that battle, leaving them in a much weakened position to respond meaningfully there after, much like the Ushra'Khan had found itself post-Unity Station years earlier.
By early April in YC112 (2010), CVA and their allies had lost their grip on Providence and many key systems including the former Ushra'Khan home of 9UY4-H and with it Unity Station had been re-taken. The mopping up of the last remnants of Amarrian occupation was well under-way.
For all intents and purposes Providence had been won. This left The Ushra'Khan in the position they had long worked towards, the "liberation of Providence from slaver rule" had been accomplished.
This achievement had come much faster than most had expected and the sudden changes sweeping the region had begun to reveal an emerging power vacuum. While Against All Authorities' own objective had been achieved in breaking the threat posed by Amarrian Providence, the question lingered of what was to come next. The Ushra'Khan now faced the dilemma of how to go about securing the region against a return to its old ways.
The Providence Pacts
Together with -A-, the Ushra'Khan worked to setup a system of 'Non-Invasion' pacts between the new residents settling into Providence. It was a chaotic time that saw alliances who had fought in the campaign settling into small pockets of space alongside some alliances who were brought in to populate the region. This process began as territories were still being wrested from Amarrian-loyalist control, a necessity forced by simple need for someone to quickly assume control.
The Ushra'Khan gave up its established Catch territories and resettled in Providence to guard against a future return by the CVA. The next few months proved to be extremely turbulent with diplomatic disputes between new neighbours weighing heavily upon the Ushra'Khan's leaders.
The 'NIP' (Non invasion pact) alliances often struggled to cooperate or held different expectations for the coalition. Some had been brought on board through the Ushra'Khan, some through -A-, resulting in a faction who regarded -A- as leaders of the coalition, although -A- themselves had again stepped back from Providence. Tensions grew and the politics have been a matter of considerable heated debate.
After some time, and a changing membership within the alliance, it became clear that the Ushra'Khan's mission was no longer being served by its continued presence in Providence. All holdings were transferred to allies remaining in the NIP and the Ushra'Khan departed Providence, no longer a sovereignty holding alliance.
Shortly after the Ushra'Khan's departure, the NIP's troubles seemingly intensified rather than abated and began a rapid collapse. Finally Ev0ke moved into the region in force driving out many of the remaining NIP alliances.
The Ushra'Khan resumed its intention to develop the capacity to act as a mobile force able to move quickly in pursuit of its mission; to seek out and destroy the enemies of freedom and to bring liberation to the enslaved.
Changing Of The Tide
In a further curve ball, our relationship with -A- started to change. They have/had a policy where every member corp gets their own slice of space. Having taken on a couple of new corps, they needed some place in Catch to put them. Reluctantly, they had to move us. It was awkward and I do believe that it was a last resort, but we ended up moving into Provi. Provi was being re-populated as a fight club/thunder-dome of loosely linked alliances with non-invasion pacts but otherwise free to pew pew each other daily. It was a pressure cooker environment and didn’t go well with ambitious neighbours not sharing a common vision of how things should work. Then -A-‘s leadership changed dramatically on the same weekend as U’K was hijacked by our new head diplomat.
Our relationship with -A- was never the same again. Where there had been a strong sense of mutual respect before, the new people in charge viewed us very much as pets. U’K was by now already in decline suffering from the lack of a clear RP-opponent, a complex diplomatic situation and the loss of rich roaming grounds all hitting activity and breeding apathy. As we were struggling to keep ourselves going in snake-nest Provi, -A- were facing a bandwagon invasion to remove them from Catch. And were apparently annoyed that we weren’t showing to defend their space despite being under attack ourselves. Go figure.
Finally we realised we were sick of both sov and Provi killing us slowly so handed our space over to an ally, 9UY4-H and our beloved Unity Station to Chribba, and left. The next year continued to be a struggle with major differences of opinion within the alliance over just about everything from which fleet doctrine to use right up to who should be running the alliance. We tried to operate as a purely roaming alliance but internal divisions and outright bickering second guessing every move made everything we tried a decidedly mixed result.
A Hijacking and A Coup [words by Ugleb]
An alliance hijacking happened a few months later (by a disgruntled and well-bribed head diplomat), we reformed as Damu’Khonde, had a few months in political hell and finally walked out of Providence to reform under the regained Ushra’Khan banner and left sov-holding behind for the next year. By this time the membership count was more like 400-500 from memory, as a lot of inactives were dropped and as corps came/went/died internally. The alliance then went road tripping across several regions, developed some truly emo-tastic internal conflicts between a few high profile members arguing over direction and found itself struggling to recruit effectively (not holding sov appeared to be an issue here).
Welcome to July 2011. At this point Tempest Borne becomes the new alliance executor and the decision is made to get back into the sov game, even if there isn’t a strong RP basis to it other than possibly building up to going another round with the returning CVA in Provi someday. Not that there was much enthusiasm there, things were not ‘as they used to be’ in Provi. A group split off from the alliance soon after this to go do just that, but they only stuck around Provi for a couple of months before moving on to other areas.
I had a conversation with Tempest when he took over, as I was CEO of our corp back then, that we would give it 3 months to turn U’K around and then re-evaluate our options. If the alliance should close was discussed back then, a year ago. We certainly made it past that 3 months.
We hooked up with old allies Imperial 0rder and went to live on their couch in Omist. The internal conflicts came to a head and resolved, albeit messily, at this time and we get on with the Omist thing. Just as we were getting up to speed again, for the first time in awhile tbh, I0 selected a new executor who promptly disbanded their alliance and handed Omist to the DRF. Did not see that coming! This begins the cycle of find space and start getting settled only for something (often external to U’K) to go wrong a few months later, leading to a move, and another move, oh hey a key ally has apparently collapsed this region is about to get ROFL stomped….
Now I’m not saying that U’K was by any means perfect, but there was some pretty damned bad luck along the way. 😉
After a year of uncertainty and the utter lack of vaguely secure space to be had, Ushra’Khan was running out of options to explore politically and in part that was due to dwindling and increasingly apathetic manpower. The more you relocate, the more weary people get. The weaker you appear, the worse the offers you can expect. Things finally came to a head this week.
This month a plan to go live in Etherium Reach was hatched, began and fell through all in rapid succession. That was the final frustration and the alliance 2nd and 3rd in command both stood down to move on. It has been clear for a while that the null-sec motivated parts of the alliance were fed up of the uncertainty and that there was another chunk of the alliance who just weren’t getting involved any more.
It was the elephant in the room that the alliance was just not competitive in null sec any more and that this was not likely to change without something drastic. Tempest called for volunteers to replace the departing 2nd in command and received a very lacklustre response. With no-one else apparently coming up with any fresh ideas, this was when he sent out the alliance mail announcing his intention to close down the alliance, as it was no longer delivering the opportunities or play style that anyone really wanted.
Stepping down probably would not have helped at this point, as there was no-one visibly prepared to step up with a better plan. It should be noted that he could have simply kicked all of the corps out at this point and have been done with it, if he had been so intent on ‘killing’ the alliance as some have accused him of. He did not do that. Instead he set out a planned closure which gave every corp and pilot a fortnight to make their decisions. He called time and as the only person stepping up to lead on the alliance level, made the call.
And then things got interesting. There are a great many old timers within U’K that have been with the alliance for many years. And there is a huge amount of affection for both the name and history of the Ushra’Khan. This is when the so-called ‘coup’ plan came about.
By this point the Ushra'Khan had ceased to be a 'competitive' null sec entity with declining numbers, and many in leadership roles left feeling frustrated and burned out. The Executor made the decision to begin winding down the alliance.
In the week leading up to this decision, both pilots occupying the positions of 2nd and 3rd in command had resigned and the open call to find replacements for them had met with a lacklustre response. The options still open to the alliance at this stage for where to move next had become increasingly poor and did not satisfy the requirements of the alliance or its pilots. The reality was that many of the remaining null-sec oriented pilots were considering departure but staying on out of a sense of loyalty, while others wished for a 'return to basics' and more direct action against the slaver; something that had become increasingly less common over time.
This controversial situation came to a head within the alliance and control of the Ushra'Khan was 'seized' under CONCORD corporate law with the alliance 'holding corporation' removed from power on 20th June YC114, after which its CEO ultimately resigned. This step was taken by a few veterans concerned that CONCORD could soon be authorised to formally disband the Ushra'Khan as a sanctioned Capsuleer alliance. These pilots had other plans for the Ushra'Khan legacy that meant a radical change in direction and focus that would take the alliance out of null sec.
Tempest did misjudge one thing in this, and that was how the (up until now) largely silent and apathetic membership would respond to the notion of the Ushra’Khan ceasing to exist. I call the response ‘with fear and horror’. In a moment of unfortunate misunderstanding, two senior members of the alliance (Feanos and Emrys) decided that it was necessary to seize control of the alliance in order to prevent Tempest from pushing the disband button.
The sad part is, in my opinion, if they had acted with a little more trust and a little less fear, Tempest would have handed the alliance over to them. Their plan was to strip the alliance back to its RP roots and move into the newly revamped Factional Warfare. They quietly and quickly moved to remove Tempest from control of the alliance and to end the threat of disbanding, which they felt he would do regardless. On balance, had Tempest phrased his mail a bit differently… well, who knows.
I’m going to point out at this point that I consider all three of them to be friends, and understand where they were all coming from in this. In their own ways they were all trying to do right by the membership of the alliance. It is just very unfortunate that things unfolded as they did, and no-one is particularly happy about it. While Feanos and Emrys were acting to preserve the name, Tempest was attempting to release a lot of unhappy players from the guilt trip and uncertainty of leaving the alliance. People are very attached to and sentimental about U’K, there are plenty of people who felt relief and a sense of release by Tempests actions, and those who were dismayed by the whole thing.
I believe that Tempest was right to put an end to the Ushra’Khan as a null sec entity, and stand behind him in making that call. It needed to be done. But I am glad that the name will be continuing in a new direction, and do hope that the alliance might be able to reconnect with its RP roots and find a new vitality. And I hope that everyone who is now moving on to new homes will find whatever it is that has been missing from their EVE lately.
Traditions and history are good, but sometimes you need a fresh start. And sometimes, that can be a painful experience.
MOVING ON - BACK TO ITS ROOTS (kinda)
On 1st July YC114, having been reduced from thirteen corporations to three (including the holding corporation), and from around 350 pilots down to less than 80, the Ushra'Khan took the step of enlisting with the Tribal Liberation Force under the CONCORD Emergency Militia War Powers Act. The Militia War Powers Act had only been recently expanded at the end of YC113 allowing for CONCORD sanctioned alliances to enlist with the empire militias.
The alliance, temporarily under the leadership of Emrys Ap'Morgravaine, promptly implemented its planned merger with the Damu'Khonde. Damu'Khonde was the alliance created by Ushra'Khan corps following the alliance hijacking that occurred in July YC112, and put into hibernation in October when the alliance reverted to the Ushra'Khan banner.
For many this moment was a symbolic return home and perhaps an ending to the long running tensions that have existed between the Ushra'Khan and the Republic since the days of Prime Minister Karin Midular.
On 2nd April YC115, contact was made with DeT Resprox of T.R.I.A.D, one of the founding members of Ushra'Khan. T.R.I.A.D (originally SMaK Enterprises) rejoined Ushra'Khan on 6th April YC115 and leadership was handed over to DeT Resprox who made an announcement on GalNet giving an understanding of the reasons behind this move.

Ushra'Khan Forces Attack in Ammatar Mandate
On November 3, 2020, Ushra'Khan forces launched an offensive against a Khimi Harar Fortizar located in the Ammatar Mandate system of Tanoo. This incident was part of a broader conflict occurring simultaneously with the war in Delve, where many alliances were engaged in intense combat.
During this period, multiple factions and alliances were active in New Eden, with Ushra'Khan notably making this strategic move in response to the geopolitical climate created by the recent formation of Pochven territories by the Triglavians. This attack by Ushra'Khan underscores the alliance's ongoing commitment to the Minmatar cause and its efforts to destabilize Amarr interests in the region.
The war in Delve heavily influenced the actions of various alliances across New Eden, with Ushra'Khan capitalizing on perceived openings created by other conflicts. Their involvement in such operations signifies their role in broader combat scenarios, impacting the dynamics of power in Amarr and Minmatar relations.
This offensive comes amid ongoing reports of significant military actions across different regions, including assaults by other factions and joint operations involving multiple entities. The Ushra'Khan incursion into Ammatar Mandate territory highlights their longstanding efforts to combat oppression and fight for the liberation of their people.
As tensions rise and territorial disputes continue, Ushra'Khan’s actions represent a notable effort to disrupt and challenge opposing forces, all while being part of a larger narrative of resistance against multiple threats in the evolving landscape of New Eden.
The Ushra'Khan alliance, known for its strong advocacy for Minmatar independence, has been involved in ongoing combat operations and various significant events throughout New Eden. Recent reports highlight their activities during a turbulent period marked by the escalating conflict on Floseswin IV.
Multiple Deathglow Attacks Against Amarr Towns
On December 4, 2019, reports emerged of multiple Deathglow attacks against Amarr towns and industrial sites, resulting in heavy casualties on Huola VII. In the wake of these attacks, House Sarum alleged that Minmatar terrorists were responsible for the violence, and notable mentions of Ushra'Khan operatives being captured emerged, linking them directly to the unrest in the region.
Kameira Lodge’s Engagement
In line with the escalating conflict, the Kameira Lodge confirmed that they had been retained by House Sarum for their services. Reports indicated that assault troops were staging in Sahtogas, implying a significant buildup of military force aimed at combating the Minmatar forces, which notably included the Ushra'Khan alliance.
Ongoing Combat Operations
The combat operations on Floseswin IV have seen an uptick as House Sarum escalated their assaults on Minmatar population centers. Ushra'Khan's involvement in these conflicts highlights their position within the larger narrative of the ongoing struggle for autonomy against Amarr forces. The synchronized timing of their operations showcases the alliance's commitment to defending Minmatar interests amid significant pressure from House Sarum.
As the political landscape shifts in New Eden, the actions of Ushra'Khan resonate across multiple fronts, with their involvement as both a catalyst and a response to the changing tide of conflict between the Amarr Empire and the Minmatar Republic. Their operations serve not only as a focal point of resistance but also as a symbol of the ongoing fight for freedom and self-determination in the galaxy.
Kahah Situation Escalates to Mass Violence in Space; Khanid Forces and CONCORD Respond
On November 6, 2018, a significant conflict erupted in the Kahah system involving the Royal Khanid Navy and Minmatar capsuleers from the Ushra'Khan alliance, amidst the ongoing Kahah Rebellion. The clash was marked by the destruction of a Minmatar militia freighter through the intervention of a Khanid Navy Aeon-class supercarrier. In retaliation, Ushra'Khan capsuleers were reported to have targeted a CONCORD observer vessel.
During this incident, Khanid forces acted against an attempted troop landing on Kahah III by the Tribal Liberation Force militia, led by capsuleer Armast Darkar. The Ushra'Khan fleet provided crucial escort and support for Darkar's Providence-class freighter, facilitating militia and mercenary troop landings. Captain Oveg Drust from SARO was present on behalf of CONCORD’s Inner Circle, along with a group of Amarr loyalist paramilitaries.
The landing attempt by the Minmatar forces encountered severe challenges, resulting in substantial losses. Sources reported that many shuttles and dropships were destroyed due to their failure to adapt to Kahah III's atmospheric conditions. Khanid ground forces effectively utilized anti-aircraft batteries and atmospheric fighters to thwart the Minmatar incursions. Additionally, units of the 7th Asbara Cyber Knights engaged in combat, eliminating several rebels attempting to sabotage Khanid installations.
Royal Commodore Arraz Nomarya commanded the Khanid Navy's RKN Ironclad Faith, which operated as the command center for the combined operations. They asserted that the loyal militia effectively neutralized the threat posed by the attempted incursions, leading to the destruction of the rebel freighter allegedly functioning as a launching platform for the attacks. The pacification efforts on Kahah were underscored as ongoing, with only sporadic resistance remaining.
While the attempt to land troops faltered, Ushra'Khan forces executed a successful "suicide attack" targeting the Marshal-class battleship commanded by Captain Oveg Drust. This offensive was noted by Ushra'Khan as a retaliatory measure against what they termed "CONCORD support of war crimes in Kahah." Drust emphasized the importance of adherence to the Yulai Convention, which governs matters related to planetary security.
Recent events also highlight the turmoil in Kahah space, as allegations surfaced regarding the Fweddit capsuleer alliance executing approximately two million slaves during a staged event involving Providence-class freighters. The incident received condemnation from both Amarr and Minmatar factions, raising concerns regarding the operations of slave trading through SCC markets.
The SCC made no official comments related to the notorious slave trade practices. However, concerns were raised within CONCORD regarding the implications of the Yulai Convention and the security of planetary customs offices, prompting discussions at high levels regarding capsuleer permissions under planetary management acts. The escalating tensions in New Eden reflect deep-rooted issues still persisting between various factions and the implications of their actions in interstellar space.
The Minmatar Tribal Council issued a call on October 21, 2016, for candidates from all seven tribes of the Minmatar to join a new capsuleer recruitment program of the Republic Fleet. This initiative is believed to incorporate new cloning technology that expands the range of candidates eligible for capsule adaptation.
In the wake of ongoing discussions revolving around interstellar security and challenges, the Tribal Council is reportedly addressing several pressing issues such as the "Drifter Crisis", attacks from the Blood Raider Covenant and Sani Sabik cultist forces, as well as persistent problems related to the border conflict and "slaver crimes" involving the Amarr Empire.
Notably, the council's announcements coincide with evolving cultural dynamics within the Minmatar community, including the emergence of new religious practices. An intriguing development involves adherents to a hybrid of Amarr religion and Minmatar spiritualism adopting a belief system called "The Way of Ephesianos." This ideology appears to be influenced by the writings of a capsuleer allied with the freedom fighter alliance, Ushra'Khan.
This revelation occurs alongside heightened non-tribal cult activity on Matar and other Minmatar planets, with various sects, including those from the Sani Sabik and the Salvation Church of Blessed Servitude, showing increased visibility. These movements are thought to be a direct response to recent interstellar developments and reinforce the complex socio-political landscape that the Minmatar must navigate in this period.
The involvement of Ushra'Khan in the framing of this new belief illustrates their significant influence within the Minmatar society and highlights the alliance's ongoing role in advocating for freedom and self-determination amidst external pressures and internal transformations.
Ushra'Khan Alliance Involvement
The Ushra'Khan alliance played a significant role during the tumultuous political climate in New Eden, particularly surrounding events involving Karin Midular. In YC 109, the Ushra'Khan alliance placed a symbolic bounty of 1 ISK on Midular's head following her controversial order for the assassination of Karishal Muritor, a Republic Fleet Admiral. Muritor had gone rogue and was leading attacks against the Bleak Lands, raising tensions between different factions within the Minmatar Republic.
This symbolic act by the Ushra'Khan alliance highlighted their opposition to Midular's moderate views and her attempts to appease the Amarr Empire, which were at odds with the more radical approaches advocated by some Minmatar factions. The bounty served as a clear statement of disapproval from those who considered themselves freedom fighters, aligned with the more aggressive strategies of the movement.
Midular's tenure as Prime Minister faced further challenges in YC 110 when Maleatu Shakor initiated a vote of no confidence against her that resulted in her ouster. Subsequently, the Republic government dissolved, leading to significant changes in leadership dynamics. Despite this, Midular remained Chief of the Sebiestor Tribe, maintaining influence within her faction of the Minmatar.
The aftermath of these events, including the Elder Fleet's incursion into the Amarr Empire to free enslaved Minmatar, showcased the complicated web of alliances and conflicts within New Eden, in which the Ushra'Khan alliance played a pivotal role during these critical moments in Minmatar history.
Ushra'Khan Alliance Involvement - News Report from February 15, 2013
Pator - The delegates of the seven Minmatar Tribes were welcomed to Pator by Sanmatar Maleatu Shakor, amid fanfare and attempts on their lives by various foes. The gathering, marking the first Tribal Council in over a thousand years, saw the delegates departing from historically significant systems and heading toward Pator. Their escort included loyalists from the Minmatar faction, notably Electus Matari and former members of Ushra'Khan and Namtz'aar K'in, who formed ad hoc fleets to protect the delegates during their journey.
Upon their arrival in Pator, the delegates docked at the Republic Security Services Station, where a lavish fireworks display followed Sanmatar Maleatu Shakor's stirring speech that promised a new era for the Matari people. Ushra'Khan's involvement was evident as they stood alongside fellow loyalists to showcase their support for the Minmatar cause during this significant event.
However, the event was marred by controversy. The Nefantar delegate faced verbal harassment from the Murientor Tribe, demonstrating the internal conflicts that persist within Minmatar society. As the delegates proceeded with their plans, they were also targeted by the 24th Imperial Crusade alliance Fweddit and the notorious Goonswarm, who made attempts to disrupt the proceedings through combat strategies. Fortunately, the escorting forces, including Ushra'Khan members, utilized prototype CONCORD modules to safeguard the delegates, ensuring their safety despite the opposing factions' aggression.
In summary, Ushra'Khan's contributions were vital during this pivotal moment in Minmatar political history, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to the Republic and the welfare of its people.
Yulai, Genesis - On December 18, 112, Ushra'Khan [UNITY] led a significant protest against CONCORD, expressing their concerns about what they perceived as a "pro-Amarrian bias" within the organization. According to Forlorn Wongraven, a representative of the UNITY faction, alliances such as The Star Fraction and Electus Matari also participated in this event, indicating a collective disapproval of CONCORD's alleged favoritism towards the Amarr Empire.
The protest commenced at 21:00, with Rye Contini noting that it was aimed at addressing the supposed favoritism shown by CONCORD towards the Amarr. Ushra'Khan articulated this bias through various grievances, one notable issue being the recent replacement of all learning skill books with copies of the Pax Amarria. Forlorn Wongraven remarked that this favoritism was evident and that Ushra'Khan stood firmly against anyone who supported slavery or aided the Amarr nation, declaring that such individuals "deserve to die."
During the demonstration, attributed to be "peaceful" by the organizers, Ushra'Khan representatives claimed to have destroyed approximately five thousand copies of the Pax Amarria. Many of these were destroyed in a Harbinger battlecruiser piloted by Kazzzi, a former member of PIE who defected to Ushra'Khan. Kazzzi claimed that the ship was issued several years prior by an Amarrian paramilitary capsuleer corporation. He also emphasized that Ushra'Khan sought reforms of CONCORD as opposed to its outright removal, which justified their choice of peaceful protest over combat.
In response to the allegations directed at CONCORD, Aralis of Curatores Veritatis Alliance [CVA], known for its staunch loyalty to the Amarr Empire, found the claims unusual, particularly because he viewed CONCORD's actions as a hindrance to CVA's attempts to expand Amarrian territory into Providence. He confirmed that CVA would refrain from taking any hostile actions against the protesters.
Since the protest held on December 18, 112, Ushra'Khan has not engaged in any further demonstrations against CONCORD, and no statements have been released from CONCORD regarding the protest.

A recent article reported on a ban issued by the Republic Justice Department against a marketing holoreel produced by Boundless Creation. This decision came after significant opposition from a pressure group named "Reconcile," which advocates for peaceful resolutions to the ongoing conflicts in New Eden. The group expressed concerns that the marketing material was "needlessly antagonistic" and lacked class.
The holoreel in question included footage from the capture of the last Curatores Veritatis Alliance outpost in AY-YCU, located in the Providence region. Notably, this operation involved an all-Minmatar starship taskforce, formed by the alliances Against ALL Authorities and Ushra'Khan, alongside other capsuleer organizations. This coalition's efforts were pivotal in the recent combat actions that led to the outpost's downfall.
A representative from Reconcile remarked positively on the ruling, indicating that their efforts in advocacy are beginning to yield tangible results. The spokesman highlighted the significance of this ruling, marking it as a potential breakthrough in their lobbying endeavors, emphasizing the prospect of greater success in the future.
On March 10, 2008, riots broke out on Pator following the Ushra'Khan alliance's loss in the 5th Alliance tournament to eXceed. This event caused significant unrest across several cities in the Minmatar Republic, particularly because the Ushra'Khan team was not only a competitor but also a symbol of support for the Matari people and their culture.
Despite not being favored to win the tournament, Ushra'Khan boasted a passionate following among the fans in the Republic. Their elimination triggered a wave of emotional responses, leading to widespread disturbances. Reports indicated that over one million incidents of various fights were reported to police, highlighting the extent of the public's discontent.
Among the chaotic incidents, five escalated into full-blown riots that resulted in more than one thousand injuries and seven confirmed deaths. Additionally, the property damage was estimated to be in the millions of ISK. Captain Minas Kant, the lead investigator on the case, stated that the riots appeared to be a spontaneous reaction to the disappointing outcome of the tournament, rather than a planned violent demonstration.
In the aftermath, authorities arrested an undisclosed number of individuals for disorderly conduct and charged thirteen with inciting riots. With police reviewing security tapes, further arrests were expected as they sought to address the unrest that stemmed from Ushra'Khan's tournament elimination.
Malaetu Shakor, a prominent figure within the Republic Parliament, publicly endorsed the Ushra'Khan alliance during a significant session on March 6, 2008. His statement came at the end of the parliament's day, expressing hopes that “our brothers in Ushra'Khan prevail in the Alliance Tournament.” This endorsement quickly stirred controversy, catching the attention of both Republic citizens and the Amarr Empire.
The Amarr Empire reacted swiftly, lodging an official protest with the Prime Minister's office. Their communication emphasized concerns about a high-ranking Republic official endorsing what they labeled as a "terrorist entity," suggesting that Shakor's words could harm the delicate diplomatic relations between the Empire and the Republic.
In the aftermath, multiple Minmatar political analysts voiced their concerns regarding Shakor's public display of favoritism. Kilter Hesh, a noted analyst from Republic University, articulated that government officials should refrain from bias towards any organization in the tournament. They pointed out the potential repercussions of backing a group that has historically even called for violence against the Prime Minister.
In his defense, Shakor clarified his intentions behind the statement, asserting that their backing was aimed specifically at the Minmatar pilots within Ushra'Khan participating in the tournament. He noted that, regardless of political affiliations, supporting Minmatar efforts was crucial and warranted regardless of past discord.
The public reaction has shown a variety of sentiments, with many citizens appearing unconcerned by Shakor's remarks. A local resident, Barba Keth, summarized the prevailing view: "So he said he hopes a group of Minmatar win? What's so wrong with that?" This sentiment reflects a broader acceptance among the populace regarding the need for support of Minmatar endeavors, especially in competitive contexts like the Alliance Tournament.
The Minmatar Republic Parliament, on June 5, 2007, assigned the Republic Security Services (RSS) to track down the organization known as the "Bloody Hands of Matar." This move was prompted by the bombing of an Egbonbet space station on May 23, which resulted in the deaths of 42 individuals, including Faulk Stian, an ambassador from the Ammatar consulate attending peace talks.
Adrand Allsvert, the Head of the RSS, announced during a press conference that Republic forces would make it their mission to eliminate this threat, labeling them as terrorists with a serious impact on national stability. The Bloody Hands of Matar had gained unwelcome attention after previously being perceived as a group of disenchanted youth inspired by anti-government sentiments, notably influenced by their connections to the capsuleer alliance Ushra'Khan.
The bombing incident has raised serious questions regarding the capabilities of the Bloody Hands of Matar and their organizational structure, something that experts believed was lacking. The RSS initiated a crackdown soon after the incident, resulting in the arrest of members from a group named "Voices of Matar," amid suspicions of their connections to the Bloody Hands. Continued raids across the Republic followed, although the RSS has not yet provided detailed outcomes of their investigations, merely indicating that inquiries are ongoing.
The Ammatar Mandate, in response to the violence, expressed shock and dismay over the death of their diplomat, Faulk Stian, and condemned the lack of security that allowed such an attack to occur. They urged for justice against those responsible, hoping such measures would eventually facilitate a resumption of dialogue between the Mandate and the tribes of the Minmatar Republic.
PROVIDENCE – March 14, 2007 – The war between Ushra’Khan (U’K) and Curatores Veritatis Alliance (CVA) escalated recently with CVA capturing the station system QR-K85. This marked a significant shift in the ongoing conflict as the CVA had also declared war on the Imperial Order, prompting IO to ally with U’K. However, this collaboration was not enough to stop the advances of CVA.
The strategic aim of CVA and its allied forces during this incursion focused on capturing the outpost “Karishal’s Defiance,” which was named in honor of the late leader of The Defiants, Karishal Muritor. The attack was perceived more as a strike at morale rather than a tactical maneuver.
The combat was intense, with multiple factions joining CVA, including PIE Inc, Aegis Militia, and Vigilia Valeria, which increased the pressure on U’K. Despite assistance from allies such as the Imperial Order, Electus Matari, Fimbulwinter, Chaos Incarnate, and The Star Fraction, U'K began to lose ground during the conflict.
U’K made several pleas for assistance, receiving support from a range of entities, including Namtz'aar K'in and the Littlest Hobos, along with various independent pilots. Nevertheless, the continual battles indicated U’K was struggling to counter the incursions from CVA and its allies. There were reports of avoidable losses attributed to the inexperience of their fleet commanders.
While accusations flew from both factions regarding U’K's level of commitment to defending their space, the dedication of their forces did not go unnoticed. EveJoker’s relentless efforts in combat were notable. Despite some confusion during battles—including reports that The Star Fraction had taken control of defenses—the combined tactical efforts, including assistance from Aequitas Harbinger of IO and Algey of the Littlest Hobos, were insufficient to repel CVA’s assaults.
As the situation unfolded, it was confirmed that the QR-K85 Outpost “Karishal’s Defiance” was seized and subsequently renamed “Karishal’s Folly” by Amarrian paramilitary forces. This development could potentially escalate the hostilities, as Amarrian forces perceived U’K as obstacles to their interests. As a response to these pressures, Ushra’Khan faced an urgent need to defend their surrounding systems from impending threats.
In conjunction with these military events, a protest rally sparked by the group “The Voices of Matar” took place against the Republic's current government in Lustrivek V, near the Republic Justice Department Law School. Reports indicated that tensions could escalate into violence, foreshadowing a broader instability within the region. Further updates on this rally are anticipated.
Matar - On March 5, 2007, a significant protest rally took place in Matar Prime, drawing an estimated two million participants as local police reported. The protest, organized by the political party “Voices of Matar,” was fueled by growing dissatisfaction with the Republic's government. Protesters rallied under slogans like “One ISK for Midular,” expressing their discontent with the current administration's handling of various issues, including protests and societal unrest.
The government's stance was to acknowledge the protests, emphasizing the importance of freedom of speech while urging demonstrators to remain peaceful. This effort to maintain calm was in response to previous confrontations that had escalated into violence.
The Bloody Hands of Matar emerged as a prominent faction during this period, experiencing an increase in support amidst the turmoil. The movement, which began as a symbolic ideal, had transitioned into a more serious cause amid rising frustrations stemming from the Republic's approach to civil disobedience and the recent handling of events surrounding Captain Muritor.
Notably, the involvement of the Ushra'Khan alliance was mentioned in the context of the growing movement. Following the burial of Captain Muritor, Tar Kovsky, a representative of Ushra'Khan, expressed understanding of the frustrations fueling the Bloody Hands of Matar. Kovsky stated, “We understand the frustration of groups like The Bloody Hands of Matar, which makes it hard for us to condemn their mistakes. Our people need hope, though, and not continued frustration.”
While Kovsky acknowledged the deep-seated issues that had led to the emergence of the Bloody Hands, he nonetheless stressed the importance of addressing these frustrations through constructive political engagement rather than violence. He suggested that youth involvement in tribal politics might yield more favorable outcomes, disavowing the notion that violent confrontations with local law enforcement would help their cause.
Despite Ushra'Khan's attempt to moderate the situation, voices within the Minmatar community were polarized. While some echoed Kovsky’s sentiments, others pushed back against Ushra'Khan's critique. An unnamed individual remarked that the Ushra'Khan needed to reflect on their position before commenting on groups labeled as terrorists, indicating tension within the broader Minmatar political landscape.
The protests, characterized by images of activists marked with blood-red handprints, symbolize an escalating sense of urgency among dissatisfied Matari citizens. The events of March 2007 demonstrated the critical role of the Ushra'Khan alliance in navigating the turbulent political climate of New Eden while illuminating their challenges in addressing radical elements like the Bloody Hands of Matar, who sought more direct action against governmental authorities.
Ushra'Khan Involvement in Bleak Lands Tensions
In the recent developments concerning the Bleak Lands region of the Amarr Empire, the involvement of the Ushra'Khan alliance has been highlighted during a series of Matari insurgent attacks. Beginning around December 17, 2006, these attacks have escalated, culminating in a notable strike against an Amarrian battlestation in the Sosala system.
The assault on December 17 was orchestrated by the Matari splinter group known as The Defiants, who reportedly received support from rebel capsuleer organizations, including Ushra'Khan and Fimbulwinter. This attack proved to be significant as it marked the first destruction of an Amarrian battlestation by Matari forces since the rebellion's early days. The operation showcased the high level of coordination and tactical execution by the involved forces, leading to a major surprise for the Amarrian Imperial forces present.
The effectiveness of security measures by the Empire has since come under scrutiny, with the Amarr Navy observing an increase in the intensity and frequency of these insurgent strikes. It was noted that the successful raid resulted in significant casualties among Empire personnel and raised alarms regarding the leadership of Imperial Chamberlain Dokuta Karsoth, as leaders within the Navy expressed doubts about his command.
Following the attacks, there has been considerable diplomatic tension between the Minmatar Republic and the Amarr Empire. The Amarr leadership has accused the Republic Fleet of allegedly coordinating actions with groups like The Defiants. However, spokespersons for the Republic Fleet have forcefully denied these claims, dismissing them as unfounded and absurd.
In sum, Ushra'Khan's role in the events of the past month underscores their significance in the ongoing conflict within the Bleak Lands, highlighting the alliance's capacity for maneuvering and influence in combat operations against the Amarr. The ramifications of these skirmishes are likely to shape further engagement strategies and diplomatic postures as the situation unfolds.
Port Redemption slave facility destroyed
On September 5, 2006, news emerged that Ushra'Khan forces had successfully destroyed a slave processing facility known as Port Redemption, located in the Sahtogas system. This facility was operated by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Slaves (SPCS), a subsidiary of the Amarrian loyalist organization PIE Inc. The facility was classified as a Slave Receiving Facility (SRF), intended to accommodate Minmatar slaves for education before they were sent into the Amarr Empire. It also handled disease control and other operations.
The attack took place at the end of July 2006, when Ushra'Khan forces confirmed the facility's location by monitoring freight traffic. An assault fleet composed of at least 40 vessels, including capital ships, entered the Sahtogas system and commenced bombardment of the starbase. According to Ushra'Khan reports, the facility was unprepared for the combat, having few defenses and low fuel reserves for emergency operations. However, SPCS later asserted that preparations for relocation had diminished the defensive capabilities of Port Redemption.
Maggot, the Fleet Admiral for Ushra'Khan, suggested that some of the slaves at the facility might have engaged in sabotage, although this claim remains unverified. Archbishop, the director of the SPCS, acknowledged their overall unpreparedness for the attack while maintaining a commitment to future efforts, stating that "Plans for Port Sanctuary are proceeding well," which would serve as a replacement for the destroyed facility.
Prior to the destruction of Port Redemption, Ushra'Khan forces managed to rescue around 6700 slaves who were being held captive at the facility, but 120 slaves were killed during the initial bombardment. The attack also led to the confirmed deaths of 27 Amarrian staff members, with 15 managing to escape or being released afterward. The total cost incurred by the SPCS from the destruction of Port Redemption was reported at 175 million ISK, while another 1.2 million ISK was lost in the destruction of three Bestower class vessels intended for slave transportation.
In a noteworthy development, the SPCS recovered 17 Minmatar children who had been taken from an SPCS vessel by an unidentified third party. These children were subsequently offered to Ushra'Khan in exchange for three Khumaak, historical objects of significance to the Minmatar people. Ushra'Khan agreed to the exchange, taking the Minmatar children into their care to reunite them with their families.
Following the destruction of Port Redemption, the SPCS accelerated the construction of Port Sanctuary—an initiative aimed at sheltering homeless Gallente citizens in the Amarr Empire. The precise location of this new facility has not been disclosed to ensure security. Archbishop reiterated the SPCS's ongoing mission to guarantee humane treatment for all slaves serving the Amarrian Empire. In response to inquiries regarding the establishment of similar facilities, Maggot firmly stated, "They will be destroyed. All Minmatar must be vigilant and inform Ushra'Khan if they find further installations around the borders of the Republic."
On April 3, 2006, a significant event unfolded involving the Ushra'Khan alliance when Amarrian loyalist forces launched an attack on what they referred to as a terrorist training camp, claiming it was a Starbase located deep within Minmatar territory. This action was described as a retaliation for the prior destruction of an Amarrian Holder, Jamir Torash, allegedly by the Ushra'Khan alliance. The loyalists, operating a 70-man fleet, portrayed the attack as a necessary response to such provocations.
The fleet, led by Vice Admiral Rodj Blake of PIE Inc., emphasized the need for the Minmatar Republic to denounce what they label as terrorism, particularly condemning the acts attributed to the Ushra'Khan. During the operation, Blake declared that the time was running out for the Minmatar government and warned all Minmatar that their support for a government that harbored what he called a "viper" could lead to punitive consequences, urging citizens to abandon Republic territory if they did not oppose the Ushra'Khan alliance.
As part of the offensive, the fleet included various allies from the Amarr Empire, such as CVA, the 1st Praetorian Guard, and the Paladin Imperium. They confronted a significant defense force from the Ushra'Khan at the site of the attack, located in the YWS0-Z system. Despite their efforts to defend the facility, the comparatively smaller Ushra'Khan force could not successfully repel the larger Amarrian fleet, which initiated a full assault on the Starbase.
After forcing the Starbase into reinforced mode, the loyalist fleet engaged with approximately twenty Ushra'Khan pilots. While enduring the siege, the Ushra'Khan warriors put forth a commendable defense. However, the Amarrian forces managed to destroy the so-called "Minmatar Cultural Education Centre," which they insisted was a legitimate military target.
The leaders of both sides exchanged statements following the attack. Blake expressed satisfaction with their actions, indicating the facility was not merely educational, while a spokesperson from the CVA reinforced their commitment to standing against what they perceived as terrorist threats posed by the Ushra'Khan. This sentiment was echoed by Reash of Imperial Dreams corporation, who reaffirmed loyalty to the Empire's cause against the Ushra'Khan alliance.
In retaliation, Admiral Maggot of the Ushra'Khan denounced the attack and described it as a massacre of students and educators at a peaceful institution. Emphasizing the tragedy of lost lives, he restated their objective to rebuild and reaffirmed their defiance against Amarrian hostility. Maggot characterized the facility as a place teaching tribal customs and skills vital for young Minmatar and criticized the destruction as evidence of the Amarrian zealots' depravity.
Maggot also noted his surprise at the size of the attacking fleet, recognizing a resurgence in Amarrian strength not seen in over a year while maintaining that the Ushra'Khan's resolve would not waver. He concluded remarks with a rallying cry against slavery, reinforcing the alliance’s enduring commitment to their cause amidst escalating conflicts in New Eden.
TASH MURKON. On March 24, 2006, Amarrian Holder Jamir Torash was reported dead following an attack by paramilitary elements, including Ushra'Khan pilots, who intercepted his convoy. The attack resulted in the destruction of Lord Torash's transport ship and the fatalities of his armed escorts.
The convoy, which was journeying from Chaven to Geth, comprised two haulers, a transport vessel, and armed guards. Reports confirm that the convoy was intercepted in the Hibi system. According to a CONCORD investigation, after the attack, the haulers were forced to jettison their cargo, which included a significant amount of Vitoc, a drug currently in shortage within Minmatar space.
CONCORD spokesperson Nairan Jeromi indicated that while the assassination of Lord Torash is believed to be the primary motive, the cargo's value may have also contributed to the decision to attack. In the aftermath, Amarrian officials, including Mr. Gavit Torash, the son of the deceased lord, unequivocally condemned the attack and labeled the perpetrators as "subhuman beasts." Admiral Zarisri Chooh of the Amarrian Navy echoed this sentiment, dismissing CONCORD’s report as "a pile of rubbish."
The incident highlighted tensions between Amarrian authorities and CONCORD's ability to respond effectively in the region, especially as Hibi is classified with a security rating of 0.5. Taridor Khiknizi, Chief PR Coordinator of House Tash-Murkon, criticized CONCORD for its failure to provide assistance during the distress call and has filed a complaint regarding this matter.
In summary, Ushra'Khan's involvement in this high-profile assassination has intensified discussions about security protocols and the ongoing conflict between the Minmatar and Amarrian factions in New Eden. The repercussions of this event are expected to further escalate hostilities, with immediate calls for reprisals from Amarrian authorities and heightened scrutiny toward organized actions taking place within Republic space.
